Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s K3 facility is recruiting for a Gas Plant Operator to join the team. This position reports to the Foreman, Operations within the PGI Asset team. The PGI Asset team is responsible for providing gas gathering, compression, shallow cut processing, and both sweet and sour deep cut processing services for its customers, primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts.
The K3 Facility is a registered 1st Class Plant that accommodates a range of operational processes including steam generation for utility and process purposes, power cogeneration through two 12.5 MW gas turbine-driven electric generators, separation of raw inlet gas, condensate stabilization, sour gas sweetening and regeneration, lean oil absorption, sulphur recovery, glycol dehydration systems, de-ethanization, and recompression facilities.
In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility, directly supporting Pembina’s upstream and downstream value chain. The K3 facility is a critical asset within the PGI Asset team, enabling the processing and movement of natural gas and liquids to downstream markets and customers.
As a Gas Plant Operator, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the plant, working a rotational shift schedule of both days and nights to support 24/7 operations. This role is a unionized position.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Support Pembina’s safety culture of “Zero by Choice” and adherence to the Life Saving Rules;
- Safely start up, operate, monitor, and shut down unit operations and the overall plant in accordance with established procedures;
- Review, understand, and apply Pembina’s safety and operational standards in all aspects of work;
- Complete and verify all required safety documentation, including Safe Work Permits and Field Level Hazard Assessments, for work under operational control;
- Monitor plant performance and identify, troubleshoot, and respond to process upsets to maintain safe and reliable operations;
- Document facility operations through logbooks, daily production reports, and reliability reporting systems;
- Coordinate maintenance activities, including initiating work requests and communicating equipment priorities;
- Participate in commissioning and start-up activities and support the development of safe, effective operating procedures;
- Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and cost performance, and communicate recommendations to the team;
- Complete incident reporting and support investigations as required;
- Maintain required safety certifications and coordinate ongoing training;
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment that values inclusion, diversity, and respect;
- Demonstrate strong learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to changing operating conditions and priorities, and applying new knowledge to improve performance and support safe, reliable operations; and

Qualifications:
- Relevant gas processing experience;
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed 3rd Class Power Engineering and are progressing toward 2nd Class or higher;
- Experience operating plant equipment such as power boilers, amine gas treating systems, natural gas compression, refrigeration systems, and gas processing facilities including shallow cut, condensate stabilization, sulphur recovery, and produced water injection;
- Working knowledge of facility operations and established operating procedures;
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing training and development;
- Demonstrated learning agility, with the ability to quickly learn new processes, technologies, and procedures, and apply them effectively in a dynamic operating environment;
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational demands;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications;
- Must reside within 100 km of the facility. Transportation is provided from the Town of Fox Creek and Whitecourt; and
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and will require pre-employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. A Driver’s Abstract will also be required.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
