Overview

Pembina Pipeline Corporation has an immediate opening for a Senior Engineer, Operations in our Oil Sands Business Unit (OBU) to support the operation of its pipelines and terminal assets. The ideal candidate will be stationed in Sherwood Park, Alberta with frequent travel to the field offices and sites.  Reporting to the Manager of Operations Engineering, the Senior Engineer utilizes their technical, business and troubleshooting acumen to initiate, lead and support the delivery of safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations solutions. 

 

Pembina is one of Canada's largest oil sands and heavy oil pipeline operators. The Oilsands Business Unit (OBU) operates one of the largest merchant terminal businesses in western Canada. These combined assets allow us to provide long-term, dedicated transportation services to our customers. 

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities, deliverables and accountabilities will include but not be limited to the following:

 

  • Visibly demonstrate commitment and personal accountability to Pembina’s “Zero by Choice” safety culture, as well as ensuring staff and contractors are fully aware and compliant with Pembina’s safety requirements;
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop safe, efficient and cost-effective operating philosophies and solutions for customers involving pipeline operations;
  • Troubleshoot maintenance, equipment and system problems, identify cost effective solutions and implement to completion using Pembina’s Management of Change (MOC) process;
  • Monitor pipeline performance and identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve safety, increase equipment reliability, and increase throughput;
  • Work closely with Operations team to optimize existing asset performance and efficiency;
  • Support the coordination of projects and communication between Engineering, Operations, Commercial and Finance/Accounting functional groups;
  • Co-ordinate and manage outside engineering consultants, specialty consultants and contractors, and internal subject matter experts for the execution of design, construction, and commissioning of projects; 
  • Build and maintain a network of service providers and technical representatives to create an effective and sustainable operations environment; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
     

Job Qualifications

  • Candidates will be a Professional Engineer (Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical preferred) and be registered with APEGA with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a technical role;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and protocols applied in the industry;
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a drive to achieve Operational Excellence;
  • Proven success in supporting field Operations and defining, implementing and executing technical solutions to operating problems;
  • Pipeline and oilfield maintenance, construction and commissioning experience;
  • Working knowledge of ASME, ABSA, AER, CSA and regulatory codes related to the operation of oil and gas facilities considered an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as presentation and report writing skills;
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and confident, with excellent problem-solving skills and a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude toward work;
  • Driven, results-oriented individual who naturally takes responsibility for setting the standard and achieving results;
  • Self-directed and capable of working within a continuously changing environment;
  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment;
  • Instills confidence and creates strong relationships quickly;
  • Ability to prioritize and meet reporting deadlines;
  • Must be highly analytical, self-motivating, excellent communication skills, and have a demonstrated ability to establish strong internal and external relationship; and
  • This position requires advanced computer skills, analytical capabilities and the ability to problem solve.

 

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing.  You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract. 

 

The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Sherwood Park, AB. 
 

 

Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
