Overview:

 

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Sherwood Park office is recruiting for a Leak Detection (Simulation) Engineer/Analyst to join the Leak Detection team, with the option to work from the Calgary office. This position reports to the Manager, Leak Detection in the Information Services Unit, (ISU).

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

 

  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Work as part of a team to provide effective leak detection and accurate product/batch tracking for Pembina’s pipelines;
  • Configure, test, and tune leak detection models and the associated batch tracking components;
  • Maintain and support real-time transient model (RTTM) and compensated volume balance (CVB) leak detection systems;
  • Maintain and support the online model used for real-time gas quality tracking and linepack management on Pembina’s natural gas transmission pipeline;
  • Build and maintain pipeline simulators for operator training;
  • Investigate issues, and manage requests related to leak detection and batch tracking;
  • Work with the control center to analyze leak alarms, troubleshoot leak detection and batch tracking issues, and recommend changes when necessary;
  • Collaborate with Pembina’s SCADA team, control center, engineering groups, product quality & measurement, automation, and field operations personnel;
  • Participate in leak detection system upgrade projects and improvement initiatives;
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation; and
  • Participate in an inclusive and diverse workplace.
     

Qualifications:

 

  • Degree in engineering or computing discipline;
  • P.Eng. license with APEGA (to hold the ‘Engineer, Leak Detection’ title) – unlicensed individuals will be titled ‘Analyst, Leak Detection’ and will work under the supervision of a professional engineer;
  • 5 years of progressive experience in pipeline modeling/simulation, computer programming, data analysis, software application configuration, and project work;
  • Strong technical understanding of fluid mechanics, pipeline hydraulics, thermodynamics, and pipeline operations;
  • Experience with pipeline simulation software (e.g., SPS, Synergi Liquid, PipelineStudio, Pipe Flow, Pipesim, WinFlow, WinTran, NextGen, Atmos Sim) or leak detection software (e.g., Leakfinder, SimSuite, Atmos Pipe, PipelineManager, Pipeline Monitor);
  • Experience in computer programming using Python, C++, C#, or Visual Basic.Net;
  • Familiarity with the pipeline industry, and direct experience in supporting SCADA system, leak detection system, and/or pipeline control room is an asset;
  • Knowledge of government regulations for pipeline leak detection (i.e., CSA Z662 Annex E and API RP 1130) is an asset;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously;
  • Self-starter, the ability to work independently on projects, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Flexibility to provide after-hours support given our pipelines are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 

The successful candidate must live within 50 km of Sherwood Park
 

Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
