Overview:

Pembina Pipeline’s Operations Unit part of the Pipelines Division, is actively hiring a Tradesperson, Electrical/Instrumentation individual to join our team. This individual will report to the Foreman, Northeast Area.  This Operational area for Pembina is one of Canada's largest oil sands and heavy oil pipeline and terminal operators, providing long-term, dedicated transportation services to our customers.

 

Successful candidate will be responsible to perform a variety of project related duties, focused on providing operational inputs to a wide range of projects. This individual will utilize technical and business acumen to initiate, support and contribute to strategic decision making, as it relates to the safe, reliable, and cost effectiveness of operational activities.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Program Modicon PLCs and HMIs, while continuously building technical capability and adapting to evolving control system technologies;
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to after-hours callouts due to equipment and/or operational issues, applying lessons learned to improve future response and system reliability;
  • Perform lockout of equipment and work collaboratively with Mechanical, E/I, and Operations teams, actively learning from cross-functional expertise to enhance safe work practices;
  • Install new instrumentation and electrical equipment, demonstrating openness to learning new tools, technologies, and installation methods as systems evolve;
  • Supervise construction contractors as required, incorporating feedback and field learnings to continuously improve execution and outcomes;
  • Complete preventative maintenance activities across stations and sites, using insights from past maintenance and failure trends to improve reliability and scheduling effectiveness;
  • Conduct field inspections to support safe, reliable alignment reliable, dependable, and efficient operations, applying continuous improvement principles and new learnings identified in the field;
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve facility efficiency and optimization, following through to completion in collaboration with Operations Engineering and in compliance with Pembina’s Management of Change (MOC) process;
  • Create notifications, enter material requests, and attach required documentation to ensure complete and accurate work orders within SAP, while continuously improving documentation quality and system use;
  • Complete work safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner, adapting to changing conditions and applying learnings from incidents, near misses, and best practices;
  • Perform monthly maintenance and calibration of onsite flow meters, maintaining technical proficiency through ongoing learning and exposure to evolving measurement technologies;
  • Demonstrate a strong safety mindset in all day-to-day activities by meeting Pembina’s Corporate Safety Standards and actively learning from safety observations and feedback;
  • Assist in developing Task Hazard Assessments (THAs), incorporating field experience, shared learnings, and continuous improvement into hazard identification and mitigation;
  • Ensure all duties are completed in accordance with Pembina procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, staying current with changes through ongoing learning;
  • Maintain pump stations and block valve sites, applying past troubleshooting and maintenance learnings to improve reliability and performance; and
  • Actively contribute to a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work environment by sharing knowledge, learning from others, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Provincial Journeyman Red Seal Certification in Electrical and/or Instrumentation with 5+ years of progressive pipeline operations or related energy industry experience preferred, along with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new systems, technologies, and work practices;
  • Experience with SAP Maintenance Management is highly desirable, with the learning agility to adapt to evolving asset management and maintenance processes;
  • 4160V experience considered an asset, with openness to expanding technical capability across additional voltage classes and equipment;
  • Strong knowledge of blueprints, Modicon PLCs, RTUs, and analytical/instrumentation equipment associated with pipeline operations, paired with the ability to continuously build technical depth in emerging automation and control technologies;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, SAP, and other business applications, with the ability to learn new digital tools and systems efficiently;
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a willingness to seek feedback, share knowledge, and learn from others;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Safety certifications (TDG, H2S Alive, First Aid) considered an asset; where gaps exist, a commitment to learning and completing required training is expected and supported by Pembina;
  • A balanced, flexible, and adaptive approach to change, demonstrating learning agility in dynamic operational environments; and
  • A collaborative team-oriented mindset, with proven success working effectively with Field, Engineering, and Technical Support teams, and the ability to learn from cross functional partners to improve outcomes.

 

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites.

You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.


The successful candidate must live within 100 kilometers of Sherwood Park, AB.

 

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
