Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporations Redwater office is recruiting for a Sr Advisor, Safety to join the team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Safety (South), part of Pembina’s Safety Service Unit.
The Sr Safety Advisor's primary responsibility is to collaborate, implement and promote proactive prevention initiatives to improve safety performance and ensure compliance with regulatory, industry and corporate standards. This position is based in Redwater AB.
Promoting Pembina’s Safety Culture – Zero by Choice, the Safety Service Unit is dedicated to delivering quality products and services by leading the enterprise-wide occupational health and safety, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs, insurance program and Operations Management System governance. The Safety team ensures compliance with all company, federal and local government health, safety, security and emergency management regulations and requirements ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and communities.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Champion safe, and cost-effective preventative and loss management approaches in day-to-day pipeline/gas plant operations to minimize potential losses and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate policies, standards, procedures, and practices;
- Work collaboratively with operations management and staff to build a strong safety culture by supporting Pembina’s “Zero by Choice” and the “Life Saving Rules";
- Perform or participate in various internal and/or external audits and inspections, including, but not limited to, Life Saving Rules, energy isolation and regulatory compliance;
- Review and assist with incident investigations, reporting and follow-up to prevent recurrence;
- Assist in the review & development of procedures and hazard assessments to ensure construction, maintenance and operational activities meet Pembina and regulatory requirements;
- Participate in operational planning sessions/safety meetings and serve as a personnel resource by providing coaching, mentoring, and advice on all OH&S-related matters;
- Communicate emerging safety issues to Safety Leadership, Operations, and Project Teams and collaborate with all parties to promote continuous improvement opportunities;
- Able to manage multiple safety priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of a dynamic business environment with advanced conflict resolution skills;
- Supporting the selection and mentoring of a focused team of Contracted Safety Representatives for projects & TA activities and the ability to delegate resources accordingly;
- Support Emergency Management by supporting local engagement with first responders, regulators, local authorities, mutual aid groups and support services when required;
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
- This role mandates a strong background in safety expertise in both pipeline and gas plant operations/maintenance;
- Minimum 5 + years of industry experience engaged in safety-related disciplines within gas plant/pipeline operations. Experience with complex turnarounds and projects is required;
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety and/or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, trade certification, technical training, and related work experience with completion of a Designation/Accreditation as a Safety Professional (e.g., CRSP, CSP) are preferred assets;
- Strong knowledge of applicable industry safety requirements, standards, policies and practices including but not limited to those of OH&S (BC and Alberta), AER, CER & the OGC;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interface positively with field and project personnel;
- Working knowledge of MS Office and demonstrated aptitude working with industry business-related computer programs and applications;
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with a clean record;
- This position is a 5/2 work schedule and requires the successful candidate to reside within 100 km of Redwater AB.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
