Pembina is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to oversee operations for its Redwater Facility and Canadian Aux Sable assets. Reporting to the General Manager, Operations of the Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit, the Senior Manager, Redwater Operations is accountable for building and empowering the site leadership team to lead the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation and maintenance of the existing and new Business Unit assets, consistent with Pembina’s Values, policies, processes and procedures.  The Senior Manager is also expected to participate in corporate financial reporting, business development activities, the incident investigation panel and corporate steering committees. 


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Visibly demonstrate commitment and personal accountability to Pembina’s “Zero by Choice” safety culture, as well as ensuring staff and contractors are fully aware and compliant with Pembina’s safety requirements;
  • Drive and foster a work environment that is inclusive and demonstrative of Pembina’s Values to all employees and contractors alike;
  • Visibly promote and prioritize best in class Process Safety Culture, Systems and Processes;
  • Empower employees to make decisions, respectfully challenge ideas and constantly find ways to continuously improve the way things are done;
  • Ensure that team members are aware of the environmental and regulatory legal and internal program requirements associated with their roles and are adequately qualified and suitably trained to perform their work;
  • Ensuring timely and thorough environmental incident reporting, internal auditing of assets and completion of follow-up action items;
  • Ensure that operations, engineering and maintenance teams are adequately staffed and internal systems and controls are in place to promote an organizational culture that ensures the safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective operation of all assets;
  • Lead the development of the operations and maintenance budget within the BU and liaise with other BU’s and service groups which impact the BU budget;
  • Provide leadership to Pembina wide operations peers by developing and delivering Operational Excellence initiatives to improve and ensure consistency in operations;
  • Provide leadership to Pembina by participating on cross Business Unit M&A due diligence teams, safety committees, project steering committees, control center initiatives, etc.;
  • Review and approve project proposals and AFEs from Engineering, Operations and Business Development;
  • Highly knowledgeable of the BU Agreements and how they impact the financial performance of BU to ensure profitable decision making, customer reporting, budgets, etc.;
  • Ensure attendance and participation in the various JV committees as required;
  • Oversee and review of the monthly scorecards and reporting to Executive Management;
  • Administer an effective performance planning and feedback system.  This includes ensuring goal alignment and creating accountability with respect to corporate strategies and performance measures;
  • Ensure processes are in place to ensure that staff and contractors have the training and competency required to execute assigned work and tasks in a safe and compliant manner and that all work performed is completed in accordance with Pembina standards and government regulations;
  • Create and maintain career development plans for employees;
  • Maintain a succession plan for key management positions;
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to all employees; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Job Qualifications

  • Candidates will have 15+ years of progressive experience in a refinery, gas processing facility, petrochemical, fractionation and/or storage cavern environments with a minimum of 10 years; 
  • Experience in leading and mentoring staff members;
  • B.S in Engineering or Technical Field preferred;
  • People first leader, passionate about developing high performing teams and cultivating a Safe and Respectful workplace for employees and contractors alike;
  • Energetic, analytical, resilient, collaborative, and goal oriented;
  • Exemplary internal/external customer service and communication skills, demonstrating the Pembina Values; and
  • Working knowledge of midstream and marketing infrastructure operations and construction.


This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
