Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Redwater office is actively hiring for a Rail Yard Coordinator to join the team. This position reports to the Logistics Operations Supervisor in the Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit (NBU), part of Pembina’s Operations Division.
The Gas Services Business Unit provides gas and liquids processing fee-for-service solutions for customers in strategic locations across the Western Canadian Sedimentary and Williston Basins. We are the largest third-party gas processor serving the WCSB at 6.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) and 128,000bbl/d of condensate stabilization. Liquids processed and extracted from the facilities are transported by Pembina's Conventional Pipelines business unit with a portion of the volumes being further processed at Pembina's Redwater facilities. Positioning of GBU at the front of the value chain allows Pembina to offer full integration from well head to market. Pembina’s Natural Gas Liquids Business Unit (NBU) is involved in the Fractionation, Terminaling & Storage, and Logistics and Distribution of specification natural gas liquids throughout north America. Natural Gas Liquids are components of natural gas classified by weight and number of carbon atoms – Methane (C1), Ethane (C2), Propane (C3) Butane (C4) and Condensate (mixture of C5+). Fractionation involves separating the different products in an NGL mix out into Ethane, Propane, and Butane.
The Rail Yard Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the daily inbound, loading, and outbound rail traffic. Interfacing with the CN Trainmaster, the Redwater Logistics and Loading Groups.
The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Redwater.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Ensuring the inbound and outbound rail traffic is managed safely and efficiently by minimizing switches to reduce fuel consumption and maximizing rack utilization;
- Obtain understanding and adhere to all applicable Pembina policies, standards and procedures;
- Obtain understanding and comply with all Pembina reporting requirements, including incidents, near misses, hazard identification, environmental spills/releases or regulatory compliance issues;
- Understanding of the CN Pipeline report for incoming traffic and service times to maintain fluidity in the rail yard;
- Compile data, prepare, and maintain an updated yard list with full identification of all cars inbound;
- Interface with Logistics in managing rail volume to meet priorities and nominations;
- Communicate with the third-party rail contractor and Rail Shift Leads on assignments, disseminate or explain information, and address all rail yard concerns to maintain yard fluidity;
- Regular checks to identify and record rail cars, verify car numbers, and perform a visual inspection – audits;
- Work closely with the Maintenance Coordinator on the required rail maintenance and inspections;
- Obtain & Maintain required Safety Training Courses, including all “Core” Training;
- Demonstrate understanding and compliance with all applicable Safety Management Systems (SMS) Policies and Standards (SSER, Environmental and Regulatory);
- Understand Emergency Response Planning (ERAC & ERAP) and rail security requirements;
- Actively support and participate in SSER initiatives, including safety meetings, Hazard Identification and Near Miss reporting, Incident Investigations and Positive Safety Recognition;
- Adhere to Pembina Purchasing Policies and Spending Authority;
- Minimize the consumption of fuel by limiting the number of switches and pre-blocking of rail cars within the rail yard;
- Measure the efficiency of the rail yard and rack utilization daily;
- Have the ability to work a rotational shift schedule;
- Demonstrate learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to new information quickly, and applying learnings to improve performance and deliver results in a dynamic environment; and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years related experience in the rail industry;
- Knowledge of rail switching and loading operations;
- Knowledge of Borque and Yardmaster computer systems;
- Knowledge of the General Rail Operating Instructions and Rail Safety Management System;
- Ability to interpret switching plans, and to revise or change plans to improve efficiency;
- Effectively convey information to multiple audiences through verbal, written, and digital communication;
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and act professionally and respect others opinions;
- Encourage teamwork and cooperation;
- Exhibit attentiveness, operational awareness and be actively engaged; and
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, or processes and apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites.
