Overview:

Pembina’s Transmission Business Unit (TBU), is looking for an Operations Engineer, based out of Channahon, Illinois, primarily supporting the US Pipelines district.  The US Pipeline district includes the US portion of the Cochin Pipeline (North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana), Vantage US (North Dakota), and pipelines associated with the Aux Sable Processing Facilities (Illinois, North Dakota).  These assets are pipelines, pump stations valve sites, meter sites, and breakout storage facilities.

 

The Operations Engineer reports to the Operations Engineering Manager.  The Operations Engineer will be a key resource for the US Pipeline District Operations and Maintenance personnel, and for supporting various corporate functions (e.g., asset management).

 

The position is accountable to identify and manage operational and process safety risks on the assets, establish a presence in our operation areas and be available to support the Operations teams as needed, and follow Pembina’s processes for Management of Change (MOC) and project management.

 

The ideal candidate has hands on operations and maintenance, and leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and is fully aligned and actively demonstrates a commitment to Pembina’s Values.

 

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Promote an organizational culture that ensures safe, compliant, and reliable operation of assets;
  • Manage engineering activities relating to the operation and integrity of pipelines/pump stations, including regulatory functions governed by PHMSA;
  • Monitor and troubleshoot pump station performance, work with operations and maintenance to identify opportunities that increase throughput and reduce costs;
  • Coordinate and execute engineering projects under the Management of Change (MOC) process and Project Delivery & Governance Lifecycle framework (PDGL);
  • Lead engineering design, estimating, project planning, scheduling, and equipment sourcing;
  • Participate in field level scoping, project execution and commissioning;
  • Maintain interface between Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Projects, Finance and Accounting teams;
  • Champion safety - Ensure behaviors/requirements supporting Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules” are adhered to;
  • Ensure all projects and work performed are completed safely, and in compliance with Pembina’s procedures, specifications and standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices;
  • Support operations in planning, preparation and technical advisement for significant operational and maintenance activities, including review of job plans to ensure technical requirements are met;
  • Plan and establish work schedules to deliver and communicate outcomes on projects and key areas of responsibility;
  • Ensure positive community and stakeholder relations;
  • Participation in corporate initiatives, such as working groups, best practice development and sharing, change management for transformation projects; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
  • The position will require approximately 20-50% travel, depending on project workload in North Dakota and Canada. A passport will be required to work in Canada.  A valid driver’s license from state of residence is required.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer in good standing is a plus but not required;
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering;
  • 10 + years of experience in Oil & Gas industry, with experience in pipeline engineering, operations and maintenance being an asset
  • Knowledge in ASME, and regulatory codes (PHMSA) related to the operation of oil and gas pipelines, specifically ASME B31.4/B31.8 and CFR192/195;
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, project management skills;
  • Energetic, resilient, collaborative, and goal oriented
  • Capability of working in a fast-paced environment and apply sound engineering judgement;
  • Professional individual with a team first attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to pay close attention to detail;
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS office and demonstrated aptitude working with other business-related computer programs and applications; previous experience with SAP PM, or other CMMS experience is considered an asset
  • Effective written and verbal communication including a proven ability to interface positively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong critical thinking skills, including analysis and evaluation of data to support problem solving and decision making;
  • Previous experience in supporting a pipeline is an asset.
  • Previous experience in engineering design and project management is an asset.
  • Experience with Emergency Response planning and activities would be considered an asset.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; and
  • Must be legally authorized to work full time in the US without sponsorship.

 

Although the ideal candidate would be based out of Channahon, Il, considerations will be made for candidates in Charles City, Iowa, Jamestown, North Dakota and/or Kankakee, Illinois.

 

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
