Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation has an opening for a Pipeline Advisor, Safety in our Channahon IL. office. The primary responsibility of this new position is to support Pipeline activities within the safety discipline by working collaboratively to implement proactive prevention initiatives to further improve performance and ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and corporate standards. 

 

Promoting Pembina’s Safety Culture – Zero by Choice, the Safety Service Unit is dedicated to delivering quality products and services by leading the enterprise-wide occupational health and safety, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs, insurance program and Operations Management System governance. The Safety team ensures compliance with all company, federal and local government health, safety, security and emergency management regulations and requirements ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and communities.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Champion safe and cost-effective preventative and loss management approaches within Pipeline activities to minimize potential losses and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate policies, standards, procedures, and practices;
  • Collaborate with Operations Management and Staff to foster a strong safety culture;
  • Conduct and/or review hazard assessments for higher-risk activities in preparation and during Turnaround (TA), taking appropriate actions to address them;
  • Provide on-site Safety guidance and assistance to ensure appropriate controls and resources are in place when required;
  • Perform or participate in various internal and/or external audits and inspections, including, but not limited to, ground disturbance, energy isolation, and Life Saving Rules;
  • Participate actively in related pipeline integrity digs Planning Session/Safety meetings and function as a resource to personnel, providing coaching, mentoring, and advice on all OSHA related matters;
  • Communicate emerging safety issues to Safety Leadership, Operations and Project Teams, and work collaboratively with all parties involved to ensure appropriate mitigations are in place;
  • Review and assist with incident investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence;
  • Act as goal-oriented safety leader capable of working productively and independently within a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment;
  • Manage multiple safety priorities simultaneously and adapt to the time demands of unpredictable and rapid schedule changes;
  • Support the Emergency Management function by supporting local engagement with first responders, regulators, local authorities, mutual aid groups, and support services when required;
  • Serve as Safety liaison for internal or external parties during TA and Pipeline activities;
  • Promote continuous improvement opportunities from lessons learned; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

This position requires a background of safety expertise and/or extensive gas plant operations and/or pipeline experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience, with the majority of time spent in Safety-related disciplines within Gas Plant facilities and pipeline;
  • Post-secondary education in the Occupational Health and Safety field and/or equivalent combination of post-secondary education, trade certification, technical training and related work experience with completion of a Designation/Accreditation as a Safety Professional (i.e., CRSP, CSP) is highly recommended and preferred assets;
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry safety requirements, standards, policies, and procedures including those of OHSA, PHMSA, and D.O.T;
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management and Carrier/Rail Operations are considered assets; 
  • Handle pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment, and possess advanced conflict resolution skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to interface positively with the field, engineering, project, and contract personnel;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and demonstrated aptitude working with other business-related computer programs and applications; and
  • Valid Driver’s License; Travel is required.

 

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing.

This position requires the successful candidate to reside within 60 miles of Channahon or Herscher IL. office.
