Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is actively hiring for a Static Equipment & Pipelines Sr Staffing Engineer with deep expertise in both static/fixed equipment and pipeline mechanical engineering. Reporting Manager of Asset Lifecycle Management, this enterprise-level role provides expert technical leadership, governance, and lifecycle stewardship across all Pembina assets.

 

The Engineer will help shape engineering standards, guide technical decision-making, and ensure asset integrity across the full lifecycle—from design and construction through operation, inspection, modification, and retirement.

 

On behalf of Pembina’s Business Units, TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes Facility Integrity, Pipeline Integrity, Geotechnical, Corrosion Control, Asset Management, Product Quality and Measurement, Geographical Information System, Integrity Project Execution, and Automation Services. TSU provides leading technical expertise that optimizes performance and minimizes operational and project risk.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

Business Leadership – Acumen and Strategy

  • Promote operating excellence and support delivery of initiatives that align with the strategic objectives of Pembina’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS);
  • Drive and support operational excellence initiatives and projects in pursuit of establishing the “Pembina Way of operating”;
  • Be a true business and strategic contributor by developing and maintaining a strong working relationship with Operations, Engineering and Construction leadership across Pembina;
  • Achieve a high-quality working relationship with key stakeholders, particularly the various operating units;
  • Ensure that Pembina’s pipeline systems and static assets and associated specifications are designed to meet or exceed all applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.

 

Technical Leadership – Pipelines & Static/Fixed Equipment 

  • Serve as Pembina’s enterprise mechanical Engineer for pipeline systems and fixed/static equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, piping, and associated components;
  • Provide high-level troubleshooting, risk evaluations, fitness-for-service assessments, and strategic technical advice to Operations, Major Projects, Integrity, Engineering, and senior leadership;
  • Interpret and apply CSA Z662, CSA B51, ASME B31.3/B31.4/B31.8, ASME Section VIII, API 510/570/653/650, and other applicable codes and regulatory requirements;
  • Lead complex engineering reviews, analyses, and recommendations for asset repair, replacement, or mitigation strategies;
  • Represent Pembina in industry and code committees such as ASME, API, PIP, etc.

 

Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM)

  • Support the enterprise in understanding long-term equipment and pipeline degradation, risk drivers, and lifecycle performance;
  • Partner with Integrity Management and Reliability teams to build and refine inspection programs, reliability models, and lifecycle strategies;
  • Provide input into long-range capital planning, including risk-based replacement programs, major maintenance, and asset renewal strategies;
  • Participate in and guide root-cause analyses for equipment and pipeline failures and recurring reliability issues.

 

Responsibilities may include but not limited to (continued):

Engineering Governance & Standards Stewardship

  • Own and steward Pembina’s engineering standards, specifications, and technical governance documents related to static mechanical and pipeline assets, including assessment and resolution of any variances or deviations;
  • Ensure consistent, technically sound engineering practices across the enterprise;
  • Lead and support MOC (Management of Change) reviews, risk assessments, design assessments, and technical assurance processes;
  • Maintain alignment with regulatory updates and industry best practices;
  • Continuously adapt to evolving engineering technologies and evolving technical requirements by actively acquiring new skills, applying innovative solutions, and integrating feedback into daily.

 

Collaboration, Influences & Knowledge Building

  • Provide technical consultation to leadership, project teams, field operations, and external stakeholders;
  • Represent Pembina on industry committees, regulatory engagements, and vendor interactions;
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, building mechanical engineering capabilities across the organization;
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, sound engineering judgment, continuous improvement and proactive risk management;
  • Demonstrate learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to new information quickly, and applying learnings to improve performance and results delivery in a dynamic environment;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree is considered an asset;
  • Must be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA;
  • Registration with other Canadian and US jurisdictions is considered an asset;
  • 15+ years of engineering experience in both pipeline mechanical engineering and static/fixed equipment within the pipeline, midstream, petrochemical, or refining sectors;
  • Strong, practical working knowledge of CSA Z662, CSA B51, ASME B31.3 & B31.4, ASME Section VIII, and API 579/510/570/653/650;
  • Demonstrated experience in asset lifecycle management, engineering governance, and enterprise-level advisory roles;
  • Ability to rapidly acquire and apply new technical skills, tools, and frameworks in response to evolving project requirements and emerging technologies;
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize a high-volume of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment while managing stakeholder and sponsor expectations;
  • Excellent communication, influence, facilitation, and leadership abilities;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex, high-impact technical challenges.
