Senior New Ventures Specialist

The New Ventures Business Unit (New Ventures) team is growing. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-energy team working on exciting new business platform opportunities for Pembina Pipeline Corporation. For this role, we are seeking a motivated and highly experienced candidate to lead the financial and economic evaluation and development of New Venture’s projects.

New Ventures is focused on identifying, evaluating and developing new value-enhancing business platforms. We are leveraging our organization’s deep technical and commercial expertise, expansive infrastructure network and product mix to develop opportunities in three core areas: (1) Energy Diversification, (2) Chemicals and (3) Terminals.


  1. Energy Diversification: we are developing competencies and strategic projects to position our business, customers and products for resiliency in a low-carbon economy (carbon capture utilization & sequestration, hydrogen, renewable fuels, clean power, early-stage technologies and innovative businesses);
  2. Chemicals: we are evaluating world-scale facilities and investments that can transform our feedstock into higher-value products; and
  3. Terminals: we are building on our tide-water presence to access diversified, global markets for our customers and products. 


The primary responsibilities, deliverables and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development of comprehensive financial models and economic analyses to support the ideation, evaluation, negotiating and execution of New Ventures’ business development opportunities (acquisition, brownfield and greenfield);
  • Support the evaluation of new market areas and new business opportunities that are aligned with New Ventures’ strategy;
  • Become a trusted advisor through generating business insights, articulating results, findings and providing recommendations for actionable decision making to all levels of the organizations;
  • Support, prepare and present financial investment decision materials, memos, presentations and analyses for internal and external stakeholders, including Pembina’s Senior Management and Board of Directors;
  • Manage multiple assignments and projects at various stages of the evaluation and development life-cycle;
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models and valuation analyses, incorporating modeling best practices, established corporate economic standards and frameworks, valuation principles, financing structures, accounting, tax and regulatory considerations;
  • Laisse between commercial, technical/engineering, operations, regulatory, financing, accounting and tax teams in support of developing financial models and economic analyses;
  • Develop a detailed understanding of applicable regulatory policy, incentives and frameworks and their impact to project economics from a financial and risk perspective (i.e. Alberta TIER / Carbon Tax, Clean Fuels Standard, Alberta Petrochemical Incentive Program, CCUS Investment Tax Credit, etc.);
  • Support coordinating projects following Pembina’s established Project Development and Governance Lifecycle frameworks;
  • Maintain an awareness of developing industry news, trends, peer activity, corporate risks and opportunities;
  • Develop strong and collaborative working;
  • Undertake ad-hoc analytical and qualitative requests as required; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Economics, Business Administration focused on Finance or Accounting, or another quantitative discipline (mathematics / statistics);
  • Possess or working towards advanced education considered an asset (CFA, CPA, CBV or MBA);
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in a financial analysis, quantitative, and/or advisory focused role (Corporate Development, Corporate Planning, Business Development (Financial Analysis), Investment Banking, Private Equity, Equity Research and/or other similar financial advisory capacity);
  • Knowledge of the Oil and Gas Sector in general and midstream infrastructure industry in particular;
  • Keen interest in gaining in-depth understanding of low-carbon industries, businesses, technologies, markets, products, regulation (carbon, hydrogen, renewable power, renewable fuels, etc.);
  • Expert financial modeling and economic evaluation skills (financial theory, modeling capabilities, valuation principles, understanding of basic tax and accounting principles, 3 statement financial models and financing structures);
  • Exceptional research, analytical and critical thinking skills; the ability to independently formulate, support and articulate opinions and recommendations;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; and
  • Must be an advanced user of standard software programs: MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
