Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporations Calgary office is recruiting for a Safety Program and System Manager to join the team. This position reports to the Director of Occupational Health and Safety in the Safety Unit team, part of Pembina’s External Affairs Division.

The Safety Program and System Manager is responsible for the maintenance, development and continuous improvement of Pembina’s Safety Program and supporting corporate safety processes, standards and tools. This role ensures that the Safety program is effectively reducing risks, supporting the well-being of all employees and contractors and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

This role works closely with various departments, the Operations Safety Manager, the Projects Safety Manager and the Process Safety Team to ensure effective implementation of Pembina’s Safety Program in support of day-to-day operations and project execution and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Providing leadership to members of the Safety Program team of safety subject matter experts and professionals;
  • Support team member’s career development and growth;
  • Setting and aligning strategic direction for the Safety Program to support Pembina’s overall strategy and safety culture advancement;
  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of the Pembina Safety Program which is a component of Pembina’s Operations Excellence Management System (OEMS);
  • Ensuring Pembina’s Safety Program is implemented in accordance with Pembina’s OEMS;
  • Maintenance and update of Pembina’s Safety Standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices (where risk dictates);
  • Implementation of Pembina’s contractor safety standard(s) and processes in close partnership with contractor scope owners and the Supply Chain Management department;
  • Ensuring training, competency requirements, and content are established and defined to support the Safety program and regulatory compliance requirements;
  • Implementation of Pembina’s contractor safety standard(s) and processes in close partnership with contractor scope owners and the Supply Chain Management department;
  • Ensuring effective incident management process is in place, including reporting systems, data analysis, investigation tools and safety performance reporting;
  • Implementation of transportation safety and regulatory compliance processes in support of fleet safety, commercial vehicle safety, rail safety, transportation of dangerous goods (TDG) and applicable marine safety requirements;
  • Identifying technologies, best practices and innovations that can enhance Pembina’s Safety Program and improve Pembina’s safety culture, and safety performance;
  • Implementation of select corporate continuous improvement initiatives in support of advancing Pembina’s Safety Program;
  • Implementation and oversight of other supporting safety processes/tools, including, but not limited to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management, radiation safety, and external reporting; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, science, or related field;
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent preferred;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience implementing and supporting corporate safety programs or management systems;
  • 5+ years experience leading teams and supporting the professional growth and development of team members;
  • Demonstrated alignment to Pembina’s Values of Safety, Trustworthy, Collaboration, Respectful, and Entrepreneurship;
  • Leadership of teams with a diverse range of safety professionals and practitioners;
  • Applied knowledge and implementation of safety management systems and programs in the midstream oil and gas industry, upstream/downstream oil and gas, utilities, mining or diverse asset industries; 
  • Proven ability to design and communicate safety processes in a diverse asset and user context;
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of safety hazards related to the midstream oil and gas industry;
  • Understanding and familiarity with provincial, state and federal safety regulations in Canada and the US;
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and abilities within a multiple business unit and stakeholder environment;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences;
  •  Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively;
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis, report writing, and presentation;
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset; 
  • Can think and act strategically to position Pembina’s Safety Program to support Pembina’s overall strategy; and
  • Travelling to various work sites will be required in Canada (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario) and the United States.
