Overview
Pembina’s Asset Lifecycle Management Department in the Technical Services Unit (TSU) is seeking a Staff Engineer, Reliability to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, Asset Lifecycle Management. The Staff Reliability Engineer will execute and provide support to our corporate Maintenance Enhancement and Optimization (MEO) Program and general reliability initiatives, covering aspects such as but not limited to maintenance optimization, bad actor analysis and resolution, availability/reliability performance, maintainability, and spare parts strategies.
The Staff Reliability Engineer combines their technical prowess with systems thinking to be a corporate leader and champion for reliability and availability optimization initiatives. This position works cross-functionally and builds strong relationships with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Execute and support the Maintenance Enhancement and Optimization (MEO) Program;
- Work with operations and maintenance personnel, asset management, and information systems personnel to develop a reporting framework and analytics to guide the MEO program and track progress;
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders at all levels to identify reliability improvement opportunities and develop strategies to eliminate or mitigate acute and systemic causes of inadequate reliability;
- Educate stakeholders on the process, tools, techniques, value of, and generally promote the MEO Program;
- Conduct site visits for stakeholder engagement, on-site inspections, and leading investigations;
- Promote and enable the shift from frequency-based maintenance to predictive and condition-based;
- Support the development of maintenance programming for new assets before going into service. This includes Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) or Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) techniques for critical or complex equipment.
- Analyze and lead updates to the maintenance program to optimize maintenance program cost and increase overall equipment uptime;
- Support a bad actor analysis program to identify equipment in which poor reliability is leading to loss of production or revenue, excessive maintenance costs or unacceptable safety, and environment or regulatory compliance risk. Develop solutions and mitigations to optimize equipment performance;
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineers, maintenance, and operations personnel in the reliability discipline; and
- Contribute to a team environment that values inclusion and diversity.
Job Qualifications
- Engineering degree with Professional Engineer license with APEGA (or ability to obtain license within 6 months) with specialization in the reliability engineering discipline;
- Minimum 15 years of experience in engineering with at least 5 years in the role of a reliability engineer. Experience leading reliability improvement initiatives and/or reliability teams is preferred;
- Trained in RCM methodologies including RCM facilitation. Experience conducting RCFA investigations and FMECA. Familiarity with various operational excellence methodologies such as Pareto Analysis, Constraints Analysis, etc.;
- Understanding of maintenance management systems with strong SAP experience;
- Understanding and fluency regarding functions, major components, and failure modes for a wide range of rotating, electrical, and process equipment;
- Experience using engineering data, interpreting typical equipment tagging standards, and fluency in reading P&IDs;
- Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions to guide the MEO Program and assist key stakeholders in making data-driven decisions;
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize a high-volume of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment while managing stakeholder and sponsor expectations;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- A team player with ability to build collaborative working relationships with various stakeholders across organizational boundaries from executives and operational leaders to Operators and Maintenance Trades;
- Ability to influence without authority and demonstrate a passion for the role; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite of products and data historians. Experience with advanced Excel functionality, analysis within Power BI toolsets, Visio, and PI Vision are strong assets.
The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Calgary, Alberta.
