Overview:
Pembina’s External Affairs function is currently recruiting for a Policy Advisor to join their team. This role will be in Pembina’s Calgary Office and will report to the Manager, Government Relations & Community Engagement. At Pembina, the External Affairs function brings together Land, Communications, Indigenous Engagement, Environment, Regulatory, Community Investment, and Government Relations to mobilize support for projects and operations while ensuring appropriate governance and controls are in place.
In this role, you will help support the team’s efforts to research and develop public policy positions of priority to Pembina and the broader energy sector. This role will support the Government Relations function in engaging with external parties involved in influencing or setting policy such as government representatives and industry associations.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Understand key business and operational requirements that may be affected by government or regulatory policy, e.g. electricity, climate, environment;
- Monitor government agendas and activities and identify risks, opportunities, and issues relevant to Pembina’s goals and objectives;
- Identify emerging and ongoing policy issues in the external landscape, and develop integrated policy positions to support the organization;
- Facilitate internal collaboration on the alignment of policy and advocacy initiatives, including funding opportunities, with our corporate activities and strategy;
- Communication of analysis, risks and solutions to internal impacted teams and leadership in the form of briefs, executive-level briefings, presentations, speaking points for senior leadership and external engagement;
- Coordinate membership and representation on external industry associations and work collaboratively with industry associations for the purpose of alignment in messaging;
- Serve as a trusted internal advisor to the Government Relations team by providing timely guidance on policy considerations that may impact capital projects, operations, commercial arrangements, or strategy;
- Ensure engagements with government are properly recorded and managed within provincial, state and federal lobby registries;
- Participate in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Economics, Business or Political Science, or a related program
- 3-7 years progressive experience in government, economics and/or policy roles
- Understanding of government policies and political issues relevant to the energy sector
- Understanding of lobbying requirements and compliance processes
- Ability to translate complex information into concise and effective policy positions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external audiences
- Able to multitask effectively, with strong time-management skills, and the ability to accelerate in a very fast-paced, changing environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision.
- Advanced interpersonal skills
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
