Overview 
Pembina is currently recruiting for an experienced, business-minded and motivated Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join our team. Our Legal Services Unit (LSU), part of Pembina’s External Affairs Division, provides legal advice and legal services to the entire organization, striving to be a trusted partner to the business that facilitates commerce and protects Pembina’s interests. Our team consists of commercial, corporate, regulatory, and securities lawyers who provide consistent, efficient and proactive legal services to the company. The primary responsibilities, deliverables and accountabilities include and are not limited to:

 

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise on issues, and review, negotiate and draft various service arrangements and related commercial agreements;
  • In conjunction with regulatory counsel, provide advice on applicable pipeline tariffs relating to AER, CER and/or FERC regulated pipeline systems;
  • Provide legal advice on operating and ownership agreements and other long-term arrangements;
  • Support asset and/or corporate acquisitions;
  • Provide legal support in respect of project development initiatives;
  • Support an Inclusive and Diverse workplace; 
  • Advise on any disputes that arise relating to the foregoing; and
  • Co-ordinate the use of outside counsel on various commercial and litigation matters.

 

Qualifications

  • Five plus years of post-bar call legal experience;
  • Preference given to those candidates with familiarity with in-house midstream sector exposure and/or leading law firm experience;
  • Demonstrated experience as a solicitor in corporate, securities, banking or commercial work;
  • Strong and effective written and verbal negotiation and communication skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills with the ability to support group dynamics;
  • Self-directed and motivated;
  • Able to quickly modify work priorities to meet unexpected and sometimes competing deadlines;
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and legislation to ensure practices are current and in compliance; and 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of people and job functions within the organization internally and externally.
