Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is seeking a Legal Counsel to join our Calgary office on a 12‑month term, with the potential for extension and/or conversion to being a full-time employee based on business needs and performance. This role reports to the Manager & Associate General Counsel within the Legal department, part of Pembina’s Legal, People & Corporate Affairs division.

 

The Legal Services Unit provides legal advice and legal services to the entire organization, striving to be a trusted partner to the business that facilitates commerce and protects Pembina’s interests. Our team consists of commercial, corporate, regulatory, litigation and securities lawyers who provide consistent, efficient and proactive legal services to the company.

 

The Legal Counsel will provide legal support across a broad range of regulatory and commercial matters, with a primary focus on supporting Pembina’s regulatory, environmental, land, and Indigenous engagement teams. This role works collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external partners across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing timely and strategic advice on all matters of responsibility, with a focus on regulatory, environmental, land and Indigenous engagement matters;
  • Advise on significant regulatory filings, project submissions, and regulatory and environmental compliance matters, including audits, for Pembina and its subsidiaries across Canada and the United States;
  • Support land‑related legal matters, including the preparation and maintenance of required agreements, for Pembina and its subsidiaries in Canada and the United States;
  • Assisting with commercial matters, including reviewing, negotiating and drafting commercial agreements with regard to regulatory and environmental matters;
  • Lead and support internal regulatory investigations while coordinating the engagement and management of external counsel across Canada and the United States;
  • Advising and providing updates on emerging legal trends and issues applicable to subject matters relevant to the role; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience gained in a top‑tier law firm and/or an in‑house legal department;
  • In‑house legal experience within the midstream industry is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory, environmental, land and Indigenous engagement matters;
  • Strong knowledge of current industry standards and applicable legislation to ensure ongoing compliance;
  • Effective written and verbal communication and negotiation skills, combined with a high level of attention to detail;
  • Strong capability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally;
  • Ability to understand and deliver on business objectives and priorities and strives to gain strong institutional knowledge about department and company processes; and
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills, coupled with a self‑directed, adaptable approach and the ability to reprioritize quickly to meet unexpected and competing deadlines.

The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
