Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation Operations Services Unit is actively hiring a Supervisor, Pipeline Hydraulics to join our Calgary-based team. The Supervisor reports to the Manager of Development & Hydraulics and is responsible for leading and collaborating across various areas of the company that include Operations, Engineering, Construction, Integrity, the Control Center, SCADA/Leak Detection, System Development, and Commercial teams. Furthermore, the Supervisor will oversee and assist a team committed to guaranteeing safe, dependable, and efficient product movement while navigating the company through volumetric fluctuations and variations in system demand.
The Hydraulics Team plays a critical role in enabling Pembina to move high-margin commodities efficiently and safely through our pipeline systems—from gathering to transmission—by serving as a central source of insight into system performance and limitations, supporting safe, efficient, and informed decision-making across the business.
The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Calgary
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Hydraulic Governance & Technical Support
- Hydraulic Council Leadership: Triage, prioritize, and delegate hydraulics support requests spanning the asset lifecycle—from early design through to operations, optimization, and integrity. Rapidly assess and quantify opportunities using hydraulic and data models;
- Hydraulic Authority: Provide consistent, risk-informed, safety-conscious, and commercially balanced guidance to stakeholders, supporting sound, risk-aware decision-making; and
- System Capacity Stewardship: In collaboration with the System Development team, act as a central source of truth for pipeline capacities, hydraulic behavior, and system limitations.
Operational Excellence & System Optimization
- Advance Hydraulic Performance: Challenge current practices and introduce system-level thinking to improve volumetric performance, bringing customer value and operational efficiency to the forefront;
- Coordinate safety-oriented and cost-effective hydraulic solutions, including DRA, backpressure management, and power optimization, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations;
- Oversee the development and maintenance of hydraulic models across all Business Units, and deliver clear, comprehensive hydraulic simulation reports with documented assumptions, risks, and constraints; and
- Provide actionable insights through steady-state and transient simulations to support safe operations, including abnormal events such as pipeline filling, purging, start-ups, or integrity-related scenarios.
Operational Support & Risk Management
- Support Pembina’s Management of Change (MOC) processes, including design, operations, maintenance reviews, and safety assessments such as PHAs and HAZOPs; and
- Participate in incident investigations by articulating hydraulic impacts, supporting coordination with Integrity, Operations, Control Center, Engineering, and Commercial groups.

- Lead and develop a high-performing hydraulics team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning;

Professional and Regulatory Responsibility
- Provide oversight and validation for engineering work, direction for hydraulic practices, and authentication of documents in accordance with APEGA and Pembina requirements.

- Ensure that hydraulic design and operational limits reflect safe and sustainable practices across systems; and

Qualifications:
- A degree in Engineering and active registration with APEGA; experience as a Responsible Member is considered an asset;
- Previous experience leading or guiding technical teams will be considered an asset;
- 10+ years of technical engineering experience in pipeline modeling, operations and construction;
- Strong grounding in safe operating practices, industry standards, and oil & gas codes;
- Experience with data modeling and analytics tools is considered a strong asset, including but not limited to: PipeSim, Pipeflo, HYSYS, Synergi Gas, Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS), EBSS, Excel, SEEQ, Power BI, Python, Jupyter Lab, OSIsoft PI (or similar historians);
- Demonstrated leadership that reflects empathy, authenticity, and a commitment to team performance;
