Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation's Calgary Office is actively recruiting for a Geotechnical Supervisor to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, Pipeline Integrity in the Technical Services Unit (TSU), Part of Pembina's Corporate Services Division. The role of the Technical Services Unit (TSU) is to provide technical expertise and consistency across all of Pembina’s Business Units which involves the development and governance of standards, specifications and procedures. TSU works in conjunction with other Service Units to support the business objectives and operational requirements of the Business Units.
On behalf of Pembina’s Business Units, TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes Facility Integrity, Pipeline Integrity, Geotechnical, Corrosion Control, Asset Management, Product Quality and Measurement, Geographical Information System, Integrity Project Execution, and Automation Services. TSU provides leading technical expertise that optimizes performance and minimizes operational and project risk
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
As a key contributing member of the team, the Geotechnical Supervisor is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
• Provide technical support, mentoring and direction to the geotechnical team;
• Oversee the geotechnical analysis and studies completed by the geotechnical engineers;
• Review and scrutinize third party geotechnical and hydrotechnical assessments, inspections, investigations;
• Evaluate cost saving opportunities within the geotechnical hazard management program;
• Understand pipeline capacity and evaluate integrity impacts of customer service requests;
• Work closely with internal stakeholders including operations, pipeline integrity projects, risk assurance, hydraulics, regulatory, environment, supply chain, engineering and others as required;
• Manage urgent situations that arise from incidents, business projects, or regulatory requirements;
• Achieving monthly KPIs, and reporting to management;
• Prepare communication material, and present to senior management, business unit stakeholders and regulatory agencies;
• Provide training to Operations for field investigations required following key weather events;
• Develop monthly forecasts, annual expense and capital budgets, and 10yr long range spend plans;
• Review and update the Geohazard Management Program documents on an annual frequency;
• Evaluate team performance and determine training needs to meet performance objectives;

Qualifications:
• Professional engineering designation with preference given to Civil/Geotechnical Engineering. Consideration will be given to related Engineering Technologist certificate in a related field;
• 10+ years of relevant work experience involving pipeline geotechnical engineering and pipeline integrity;
• Strong technical understanding of geohazard assessment methods, investigation and mitigation strategies in relation to pipeline integrity management;
• Strong technical understanding and experience in pipeline integrity threat assessment and management, risk assessment, monitoring and mitigation strategies;
• Experience in pipeline design, operations, and maintenance;
• Experience in geotechnical investigations, geo-hazard evaluations, air-photo and LiDAR interpretations, rock and soil slope stability evaluation, subsurface and aerial pipeline river crossings, and instrumentation, monitoring;
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and a motivated team player;
• Working knowledge of midstream and marketing infrastructure operations and construction;
• The ideal candidate will have exceptional influencing and communication skills, is customer service focus and demonstrates assertiveness to ensure business requirements are met;
• Demonstrate critical analytical, and strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Travel is minimal, but must be willing to travel to the field for up to a week duration; and
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
