Overview:
Pembina’s Technical Services Unit (TSU) is currently seeking a Geotechnical or Hydrotechnical Engineer. On behalf of Pembina’s Business Units, TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes Facility Integrity, Pipeline Integrity, Geotechnical, Corrosion Control, Asset Management, Product Quality and Measurement, Geographical Information System, Integrity Project Execution, and Automation Services. TSU provides leading technical expertise that optimizes performance and minimizes operational and project risk.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

- Scope, review and initiate annual geohazard inspection, survey, instrument monitoring, assessment, and mitigation activities;
- Maintain continuous, up-to-date program and activity records and metrics;
- Provide geotechnical and hydrotechnical analysis, studies, and assessment using ground, water, and pipeline monitoring technologies;
- Coordinate, review and scrutinize third party geotechnical and hydrotechnical assessments, designs, inspections, and investigations;
- Prepare, present, and provide written reports;
- Providing technical input, recommendations, and subject matter expertise for geotechnical and hydrotechnical mitigations, instrument monitoring installations, third party crossing programs, and pipeline construction and acquisition projects;
- Develop annual expense and capital budgets, and 10yr long range geohazard spend plans;
- Provide training to Operations for field inspections required following significant weather events;
- Assist in updating the Geohazard Management Program documents;
- Identify and evaluate continuous improvement and cost saving opportunities within the Geohazard Management Program;
- Preparation and participation in audits;
- Demonstrate learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to new information quickly, and applying learnings to improve performance and deliver results in a dynamic environment;
- Continuously adapt to emerging technologies and evolving technical requirements by actively acquiring new skills, applying innovative solutions, and integrating feedback into daily problem-solving; and

Qualifications:
- Engineer in Training eligible for or with Professional engineering designation with preference given to Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, or Hydrotechnical/River Engineering. Consideration will be given to related Engineering Technologist certificate in a related field;
- 4+ years of relevant work experience involving pipeline geotechnical or hydrotechnical engineering;
- Technical understanding of geohazard assessment methods, investigation, and mitigation strategies in relation to pipeline integrity management;
- Experience in geotechnical and geohazard investigations, air photo and Lidar terrain analysis, rock and soil slope stability evaluation, subsurface and aerial pipeline river crossings, landslide assessments, ground and pipeline monitoring technologies and instrumentation are considered a benefit;
- Energetic, resilient, collaborative and goal-oriented;
- The ideal candidate will have exceptional influencing and communication skills, is customer service focused and demonstrates assertiveness to ensure business requirements are met;
- Demonstrate critical analytical, and strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines;
- Demonstrate ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, or processes and apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to rapidly acquire and apply new technical skills, tools, and frameworks in response to evolving project requirements and emerging technologies;
- Travel is minimal, but must be willing to travel to the field for up to a week duration; and
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
