Economics Senior Analyst or Specialist

Overview:

Pembina’s Calgary Office is actively hiring for an Economics Senior Analyst or Specialist to join the Commercial & Marketing Forecasting and Reporting team within Financial Services. 

Reporting to the Commercial & Marketing FP&A Manager, the Senior Analyst or Specialist leads complex economic and financial analysis to deliver actionable insights and recommendations that support commercial decisions, growth opportunities, and strategic initiatives. Working across key business functions, the team supports the short- and long-term profitability of Pembina’s assets by driving efficient, strategic asset utilization and maximizing return on invested capital (ROIC).

The Financial Services Division enables Pembina's strategy by providing trusted financial stewardship, planning, analysis, reporting, treasury, tax, and accounting services. The division is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of financial information, driving financial discipline and operational efficiency, and delivering actionable insights that support decision-making across both corporate and asset teams.

Economics Senior Analyst: Independently delivers complex economic analysis, models, and recommendations to support business decisions, partnering across functions and contributing to team standards.

Economics Specialist: Leads high-impact economic and commercial evaluations, providing expert guidance that shapes strategic decisions, analytical standards, and cross-functional alignment.

Responsibilities:

Senior Analyst:

• • Have 5+ years of direct relevant experience, with demonstrated ability to independently deliver complex analysis and collaborate across functions;
  • Own complex analytical workstreams, challenge assumptions, and translate economic analysis into actionable business recommendations; and
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align assumptions, assess opportunities, and support business cases, due diligence, and strategic evaluations. 

Specialist:

• • Have 10+ years of relevant experience, with demonstrated technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional influence;
  • Lead complex, high-impact evaluations, shape analytical approaches and standards, and mentor team members; and
  • Independently manage analytical workstreams, ensuring appropriate scope, stakeholder alignment, data integrity, quality, and timely delivery. 

• Evaluate contract renewals, temporary transfers, connection agreements, fee-for-service and take-or-pay structures, regulated cost-of-service, and large integrated or capital projects;
• Develop and evaluate financial and economic models incorporating commercial assumptions, market fundamentals, accounting considerations, tax impacts, and scenario analysis;
• Lead economic and financial evaluations of commercial opportunities, growth initiatives, and strategic projects using established corporate standards and frameworks;
• Conduct market, industry, and peer analysis to identify risks, opportunities, and value drivers that support strategic and commercial decision-making;
• Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable insights, recommendations, and executive-ready presentations;
• Drive continuous improvement in economic modeling, analysis, reporting, and data management through consistent standards, automation, digital tools, knowledge sharing, and peer development;

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Engineering or a related field; Professional designation or advanced education (CFA, CBV, CPA, MBA, or relevant graduate degree considered an asset;
• Experience in midstream or infrastructure and proficiency with SAP, Power BI, Python, or similar tools are considered assets;
• Advanced financial modeling and Excel skills, with strong knowledge of valuation, cash-flow, scenario and sensitivity analysis, and investment metrics;
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify key value drivers, and translate findings into actionable recommendations;
• Strong communication and business acumen, with the ability to clearly present complex analysis and effectively challenge assumptions;
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment; and
• Progressive years of experience leading complex economic evaluations and influencing business decisions.
