Overview:
This Advisor role will play a lead role in implementing Pembina’s community investment strategy, creating major campaigns and partnerships to support our long-term business priorities as well as address community needs. This individual will have superior communications skills and will work collaboratively with a cross-functional group of internal and external stakeholders to build relationships, identify needs, gather relevant information and provide necessary support to the communities where we live, work and play.
This role is also responsible for designing, implementing and managing Pembina’s community engagement strategies, policies, and systems. By liaising and building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, the candidate will ensure Pembina’s competitive advantage by providing a differentiated stakeholder experience through strategic community engagement.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Community Investment:
- Play a lead role in supporting the community investment strategy, and its execution, including community investment programs, policies, communications and campaigns;
- Support field-based Community Action Teams (CATs) to define opportunities for community investment to support business priorities and advancement, maximize community benefits as well as minimize business risks;
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide network of organizations and other strategic stakeholders, including Pembina’s field staff;
- Facilitate cross-functional communications and coordination of the community giving program, working with land, external communications, environment, emergency management, government relations, Indigenous engagement, and operations staff across Pembina’s operating areas;
- Manage the logistics of community events as required;
- Provide communications and event support where necessary to Pembina’s employee giving program and annual employee giving campaigns;
- Report on community investment activities as required. Strategically assess the community investment impacts Pembina is having in the communities where we operate and how these impacts relate to the progress of our focus areas, ESG and EDI goals; and
- Participate actively in regional industry associations and forums to enhance the sharing of lessons learned and best practices.
Community Engagement:
- Collect, aggregate and report on common operational community engagement issues and risks that could have a material impact on the business;
- Advise, liaise with, and make recommendations to business units on strategic and complex community engagement initiatives;
- Advise, liaise with, and make recommendations to other Pembina service units with community engagement program requirements; support the development of engagement strategies and support in the execution of required activities;
- Implement strategies to further enhance relationships with communities;
- Work as part of an inter-disciplinary team to coordinate community engagement activities to facilitate the execution of operating engagement activities; and
- Play a lead role in the development and implementation of Stakeholder Engagement plans for Canada and the US.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in a Community Engagement or a combined Community Investment role;
- Post-secondary education required (Social Sciences, Communications, Commerce, etc. would be considered an asset);
- Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with a variety of groups, from the grassroots to senior levels, both internally and externally;
- Familiarity with process, strategy and best practices of stakeholder engagement, including international sustainability norms and standards and knowledge of best practices and current trends in community investment;
- Experience in understanding/defining community investment as is contributes to impact mitigation and community enhancement measures;
- A demonstrated understanding and sensitivity of Indigenous history and culture;
- Experience in project management and facilitation of large groups would be considered an asset;
- Ability to work autonomously to set and accomplish priorities based on broad objectives, a rapid pace and a continually evolving context;
- Strong organizational skills to manage workload with competing priorities and tight timeframes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- An energetic team player who interacts well with others;
- The ability to travel to our field offices and operating communities to develop meaningful relationships in person; and
- Experience using Benevity software would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
