Overview:

 

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Transmission Business Unit (TBU) is actively hiring a technically skilled Technologist or Engineer, Automation to support and enhance pipeline control systems. This role is ideal for someone with deep expertise in automation and controls, who thrives in a dynamic environment and embraces continuous learning and improvement. You’ll work across disciplines to ensure system integrity, drive innovation, and uphold operational excellence.

 

Transmission Pipelines Business Unit (TBU) Pembina's Transmission Pipeline assets have developed through the strategic acquisition of key natural gas, ethane and condensate transportation infrastructure assets, positioned in some of the most prolific gas producing regions in western Canada and the United States. Pembina's Transmission Pipelines provide customers with access to premium markets primarily on a fee-for-service basis under long-term contracts through long-haul pipelines.

This role may be based in Calgary, Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park, or Drayton Valley, Alberta. The successful applicant must live within 100km of the reporting location. 

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

 

  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Provide expert-level support for maintaining and optimizing control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI);
  • Lead and coordinate automation improvement projects, focusing on reliability and alarm management;
  • Deliver process control support for daily pipeline operations and troubleshoot complex control issues;
  • Represent operations in design reviews, commissioning, and startup phases of new projects;
  • Collaborate with EPC firms and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment with Pembina’s standards;
  • Participate in HAZOPs, FAT/SATs, and project planning activities;
  • Prepare accurate estimates for labor and capital costs on control system projects;
  • Manage software versions, server infrastructure, and MOC scope changes;
  • Contribute to standardization efforts across automation, controls, SCADA, IT, and OT systems;
  • Support the development and adoption of new control system standards and best practices; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

 

  • Degree or diploma in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, or Journeyperson certification in Instrumentation or Electrical;
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in control systems, including PLC programming and system integration;
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation (P&IDs, loop sheets, control narratives, logic diagrams);
  • Experience with industrial communications protocols and server management is an asset;
  • Demonstrated learning agility—able to adapt quickly, absorb new technologies, and drive continuous improvement; and 
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

 

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.

 

Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Friday.
