Overview:
Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is actively hiring for an Assurance Specialist to join the team. This position reports to the Manager, OEMS & Assurance, within the Safety Department of Pembina’s Operations division.
The OEMS & Assurance team sits within the Safety Department, alongside Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Emergency Management, and Corporate Security, working together to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the business.
The Assurance Specialist is a senior assurance professional responsible for the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of Pembina’s Assurance Program within the Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS). Working closely with stakeholders across the business, this role develops assurance plans, leads assurance activities and audits, and ensures effective corrective action management across a broad range of programs and scopes under the OEMS, including Security, Safety, Asset Integrity, Emergency Management, Environment and Damage Prevention and Public Awareness programs.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

- Lead the implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of assurance activities in support of Pembina’s Assurance Program;
- Shape and support the maturity journey for Assurance at Pembina by developing, stewarding, and sustaining assurance standards, processes and tools to drive consistency and effectiveness across assurance activities;
- Develop risk-based annual assurance plans and schedules, including defining audit scope, aligned with OEMS objectives, program goals, and applicable regulatory requirements;
- Lead and coordinate the execution of assurance audits, including managing resources, supervising subject matter experts and auditors, and ensuring activities are executed to professional standards;
- Manage the assurance budget and steward resources effectively to support the delivery of annual assurance plans;
- Ensure assurance findings are clearly documented and that corrective actions are appropriately defined, assigned, tracked, and closed within governance requirements;
- Communicate assurance results, trends, and insights to relevant stakeholders and governance bodies;
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify risk-based opportunities and drive effective corrective actions to strengthen performance; and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience conducting and coordinating assurance and audit activities for corporate management systems and programs, including significant internal experience within an organization in this capacity;
- Extensive experience within the energy, utilities, natural resources, midstream, or transportation industries;
- Demonstrated experience conducting assurance activities across multiple regulatory environments, including CER, provincial regulators, United States (OSHA, PHMSA), Canadian federally regulated worksites, and IMO/Marine contexts;
- Deep expertise in management systems assurance, risk-based auditing and corrective action management;
- Relevant auditor certifications are strongly preferred, such as ISO Lead Auditor, Auditing Association of Canada Certified Health and Safety Management System Auditor (CHSMSA), Environmental Professional (Compliance Auditor) or Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA);
- Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex assurance issues and generate practical, risk-based solutions;
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and track multiple assurance activities, manage competing priorities, and deliver work on schedule;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document findings, provide guidance, and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels;
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work well with others, influence across disciplines, and manage challenging situations while maintaining productive working relationships;
- Highly adaptable, ethical, and accountable, with the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment where priorities may change;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other tools used to support assurance planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting; and
- Willingness to travel as required.
