Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Calgary office is recruiting an Accountant, Capital to join the Controllers group. This position reports to the Supervisor, Operations Accounting in the Conventional Business Unit (“CBU”), part of Pembina’s Pipelines Division.  Pembina's conventional pipeline assets comprise a strategically located network of pipelines and related infrastructure including various hubs and terminals. This network transports crude oil, condensate and NGL across much of Alberta and parts of British Columbia. 


The Capital Accountant must be able to work independently and collaborate with various groups across the organization, contributing to the overall governance of CBU Capital by actively promoting adherence to established standards and procedures.


Summary of Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Subject matter expert and first point of contact for CBU regarding capital policies and procedures; 
  • Support the accounting of non-standard transactions such as purchases and sales of assets and capital spares inventory;
  • Prepare monthly capital reports including variance analysis for the Scorecard; 
  • Subject matter expert of inputs for creating AFE’s maintained in SAP Project and Portfolio Management (PPM);
  • Responsible for accurate monthly capital accruals with a strong interface to Project Cost Control Analysts and Project Managers; 
  • Support and challenge Project Managers and Cost Control Analysts with monthly forecast; 
  • Chair monthly meetings to review actual and forecast variances; 
  • Monitor and perform return on invested capital (ROIC) calculation; 
  • Prepare and validate quarterly reports including Assets Under Construction and Construction Commitments; 
  • Work collaboratively with Fixed Assets group to ensure timely asset retirement; 
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations;
  • Special projects as assigned; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.



  • Designated accountant with a minimum of 3 years post designation experience;
  • General understanding of the overall project management framework with a strong understanding of Value of Work done and Project Forecasts;
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry and specifically within the midstream/upstream industry is an asset;
  • Self-motivated, independent, team player with a strong work ethic and initiative is essential for success in this hands on role;
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with ability to set priorities; and
  • Previous experience with SAP/Analysis/PPM is an asset.
